Oustanding News

Agreement between UCAM and Diocese of Asidonia-Jerez  for the teaching of Canon Law

The Faculty of Human, Canonical and Religious Sciences of the Catholic University of Murcia (UCAM), from now on, will have a section in the Diocese of Asidonia-Jerez for the implementation of the Degree in Canon Law, in conformity with the teaching and research criteria of the civil universities.

The UCAM, together with the Diocese of Jerez, will foster the studies in Canon law in the civil field.
The course will begin with the opening of a section of the Faculty of Human, Canonical and Religious Sciences of the Catholic University of Murcia in the Andalusian city.

The president of the Catholic University of Murcia, José Luis Mendoza, and the bishop of Asidonia-Jerez, Monsignor Mazuelos, have signed the agreement in the Los Jerónimos Campus, in front of the bishop of Cartagena, Monsignor Lorca Planes, and the emeritus archbishop of Burgos, Monsignor Gil Hellín.

The Faculty of Human, Canonical and Religious Sciences of the Catholic University of Murcia (UCAM), from now on, will have a section in the Diocese of Asidonia-Jerez for the implementation of the Degree of Canon Law, in conformity with the teaching and research criteria of the civil universities. The possibility to offer this teaching derives from the agreement signed today by the president of the Catholic University of Murcia (UCAM), José Luis Mendoza, and the bishop of the Diocese of Asidonia-Jerez, Monsignor José Mazuelos, in the Los Jerónimos Campus.
Regarding this agreement, José Luis Mendoza has assured that “this teaching has the main objective of being an instrument to serve the Church”.

Mendoza has stressed as well the importance, for these titles, to meet the highest quality standards like the other degrees offered by the University.

For his part, Monsignor Mazuelos has stressed “the importance, for the Church, to always be present in the field of education” and he has showed his satisfaction for being able to disseminate these titles through the UCAM.
The bishop of the Diocese of Cartagena, Monsignor José Manuel Lorca Planes, was present in the event as well, and he valued the great work that the Catholic University of Murcia has developed during more than twenty years of existence, always with the “vocation to serve people”.
Javier Belda, the Dean of the Faculty of Human, Canonical and Religious Sciences, spoke as well during the signing of the agreement, and he stated that, with this degree “we are going to foster canon law in the civil university, bringing it closer to the world and combining the on-line teaching with face-to-face sessions in different geographical areas; the first headquarters for southern Spain will be in Jerez”. “This degree is opened to everybody, lay persons, ecclesiastics and religious persons”, added Belda.
The new section of the Faculty will be coordinated by the Judicial Vicar of the diocese of Jerez, Miguel Ángel Montero. Those who are interested in receiving more information about these studies can contact directly the UCAM or the bishopric of Jerez, or they can send an e-mail to pul@ucam.edu
The opportunity to carry out these studies derives from the agreement signed a few months ago by the Catholic University of Murcia and the Lateran Pontifical University of Rome, the university of the Pope, which has the objective of disseminating the ecclesiastical sciences in the civil field.
With the University of Cádiz
During the event, Javier Belda announced as well that the UCAM, in collaboration with the University of Cádiz, is going to implement a Master's degree in advanced canon law, which will address three main aspects: Patrimonial Law, Matrimonial Law and Law of the Associations and Brotherhoods.

CALL FOR PAPERS

CALL FOR PAPERS:

MIGRANTS AND REFUGEES IN THE LAW

Historic evolution, current situation and unsolved questions

It is with great pleasure that we invite you to participate in the Fourth International Conference of the International Chair Innocent III, to be held at Universidad Cátolica San Antonio in Murcia, Spain from 12 to 14 December 2018.

The Fourth International Conference is organized by the Editors-In-Chiefs of the Cátedra Internacional conjunta Inocencio III, Dr. D. Javier Belda Iniesta [Universidad Católica de Murcia], and Prof. Matteo Nacci [Pontificia Università Lateranense].

The first International Conference [in the year of the 800th anniversary of the Fourth Lateran Council and of the English Magna Charta] has spoken about Innocent III and his time, from the period of absolute papal monarchy to the Fourth Lateran Council, not only by focusing the point of view of history, but also by underlining law topics.

The second International Conference has discussed upon Justice, Mercy and Law [from revenge, to forgiveness in the History of Law]. Retributive way, forgiveness and mercy are the key-words of a new idea of Justice, which has to forsake the concept of private revenge and “revenge for honour” to accomplish its actual aim.

The third International Conference has considered the justice and the judicial process in the History of law, from an interdisciplinary point of view: law, comparative law, history, sociology, historiography and other disciplines have been profoundly involved.

The title of the next Conference is “Migrants and Refugees in the Law. Historic evolution, current situation and unsolved questions”. The current situation invites us to analyse and comprehend the phenomenon of the “Human mobility”, with a serious and intense interdisciplinary approach, that always has to recognize the central and essential importance of the person. By investigating on the historic evolution and the current situation, this Conference aims to understand whether the Migration has to be contemplated as a mere emergency, or as a possibility for the community.

This International Conference will be divided in three different sessions; each of them will correspond to three distinct periods: the ancient and medieval period [The migration in the ancient and the medieval history. Historical approach to human mobility]; the modern period [Nation, State, Revolution. The situation of the migrants and the refugees from the origin of the modern State] the post-modern period [Between emergency and ordinariness. Proposals for the enhancement of a constant phenomenon in the contemporary age].
